Sailomyen Cafe and Hostel in Vientiane

You've got plenty of hostels in Vientiane but it's not hard to understand why Sailomyen is one of the best of them.

With a cool factory design, comfortable beds, and great cafe, it's definitely one of the best places to stay in Vientiane on a budget.

Because yes, this hostel is cheap and far from what I've been used to for this price.

Starting from only 9$ a night, the hostel offers a clean place to stay, with lovely staff and great coffee.

And honestly, what else do you really need?

The Hostel

The first thing that strikes you about Sailomyen is its design. And the smell of coffee when you push the door.

Wood and metal everywhere, nicely designed furniture all over the place, an inspirational quote painted on the concrete wall.

The place has a special feeling to it and they nailed the look down to the smallest details.

Once you arrive to the counter, their staff is here to take care of you and you will most definitely appreciate their really good English.

At the check-in, they give you a key to your room, of course, but also a lock for your own private locker in the room, and a towel.

These little details are what make the difference between this hostel and the other ones.

The Rooms

Sailomyen has both dorms and private rooms (with either twin beds or a double bed).

Even though the dorm rooms are really small, the beds are really comfortable, the rooms are clean and each bed comes with their own locker.

Oh, and all the rooms are equipped with AC.

For that price and that level of comfort, you definitely got your money worth.

For the record, I don't know if they always include breakfast when you book a bed. But if you have the choice, get the breakfast as well.

Unlike most hostels that offer shitty bread and chemical jam, this one is great.

Small, but great.

The Rest of the Hostel

The bathrooms are clean and pretty well maintained. They also have a cool design like the rest of the place.

You even got a court inside where you can get your breakfast, get some work done, or just relax.

And if you need more, they also have a terrace upstairs that overlooks the street. That should be enough options for you to find a place to get your coffee and relax.

The hostel also has a really good internet. Good enough to get some work done and watch Netflix, or both at the same time.

Spent 5 days there, the connection was always good, in the cafe, the dorm, and in the court.

The Cafe

Talking about coffee, that's the cafe that makes Sailomyen hostel even better.

When I was looking for a place to stay in Vientiane, I was looking at different hostels and this one was in my final list.

The thing that made the difference? Someone said in the reviews that the coffee was great.

When you're traveling on a budget, you're probably used to drink coffee with no taste. But when you got the occasion to have some good ones, you take it.

The cafe has a classic selection of coffee drinks from espresso to lattes and I must say, all the ones I've tried were prepared to perfection.

They also have a limited menu of shakes, eggs, and toasts. All fresh and prepared to order.

I've tried the bacon sandwich and egg Benedict's as well as the blueberry shake and a ton of coffee there. Everything was excellent.

So you can go for it, it's definitely approved.
